Purposeful play

Know what to try, why it matters, and how to make it work for your baby.

From finding a more comfortable way to practice tummy time to knowing how to respond to a new babble, Little Sprouts gives you a place to learn and try things together. Your therapist demonstrates activities, explains the skills behind them, and helps you adapt the play to your baby's current stage.

Movement, sensory exploration, early communication, problem-solving, and social connection come together through play, songs, and everyday interaction. The goal is to help you feel more confident supporting your baby between classes.

What a class looks like

You practice alongside your baby, with guidance as you go.

Each themed class combines caregiver learning with time to explore. You might try a new tummy-time position, encourage your baby through a crawling tunnel, or practice pausing and responding during a babbling conversation.

  1. 10 minutes: Welcome, caregiver conversation, and the week's focus
  2. 15 minutes: Guided movement and sensory play
  3. 15 minutes: Communication, discovery, and problem-solving
  4. 10 minutes: Songs, movement, and social interaction
  5. 10 minutes: Questions and a preview of your take-home guide

Included with each class

The learning continues after class.

Demonstrations and practice

One hour with an experienced therapist who explains the activities and helps you try them with your baby.

A weekly take-home guide

A parent-friendly recap with activity ideas, practical tips, and a play challenge to try during the week. You can use everyday routines and familiar objects.

Time for your questions

Ask about the play you're practicing and share what you're noticing. Learn alongside other caregivers while your therapist helps you find ways to participate.

A glimpse of the take-home learning

Turn a babble into a conversation.

When your baby makes a sound, try copying it back. Pause and give them time to respond. Notice whether they make another sound, smile, or watch your face. Follow their cues and take a break when they need one.

Simple ideas like this help you bring the week's focus into time you already spend together.

The experience behind the curriculum

Designed by an occupational therapist who works with infants and families.

The Little Sprouts curriculum was developed by Danielle Sauer, MOT, OTR/L. Her background includes Level IV NICU care, developmental evaluation, positioning and handling, sensory regulation, and caregiver education.

That experience shapes a practical approach: explain the skill, demonstrate the play, and help caregivers find ways to use it with their own baby.

A few practical questions

Before you join us.

How do I choose between Pre-Crawlers and Crawlers?

Pre-Crawlers focuses on early movement, reaching, rolling, and interaction. Crawlers focuses on moving to explore, using hands with more purpose, and growing communication. If your baby is between stages or you have questions about which activities fit, contact our team before booking.

What if my baby needs a break or isn't doing an activity yet?

Follow your baby's cues. The therapist can help you adapt an activity to their current skills, and watching or taking a break is part of participating. The class is a place to explore together at your baby's pace.

Do we need to be current patients?

No. Little Sprouts is a community class open to families who are not currently receiving care at the Institute.

Do class packages need to be used consecutively?

No. Packages can be used for any Little Sprouts class and do not need to be used in consecutive weeks. Booking details and any package terms will be shown in Jane.

What if I have a specific concern about my baby's development?

Little Sprouts is a developmental class rather than an individual evaluation. Tell our team what you are noticing, and we can help you decide whether a separate developmental or feeding evaluation may be useful.
